About the Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition

A comprehensive community-based health coalition

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) at the University of New England's College of Osteopathic Medicine is a comprehensive community-based health coalition working to promote nutrition, substance abuse prevention and lead poisoning prevention.

CHCC serves the Maine communities of Arundel, Biddeford, Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, and Saco.

CHCC’s work is supported by Maine’s Centers for Disease Control, the Fund for Healthy Maine, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

Mission and Vision

CHCC collaborates with community partners to implement health promotion, prevention, and policy initiatives that make York County a healthy place to live, learn, work, and play.

Goals

  1. Work toward promoting a smoke-free environment in all public indoor and outdoor places.
  2. Educate the community about health and the economic costs of chronic disease and how to prevent it.
  3. Create supportive environments within communities and schools for good nutrition.
  4. Empower youth, parents, and community members to collaborate with the goal of reducing substance misuse while promoting caring, safe, healthy, and productive communities.
